Emily Maitlis has addressed the support she’s received (Picture: BBC)Emily Maitlis has responded to the outpouring of support after she stepped down from Wednesday’s Newsnight and was replaced by Kate Razzell, insisting she ‘asked for the night off’.
The move followed the BBC admitting Tuesday’s programme ‘did not meet’ its standards of impartiality following a monologue on senior government aide Dominic Cummings.
Even though she was the backing of the masses and celebrities spoke out to support her comments, many others felt it wasn’t in line with the Beeb’s reporting guidelines.
Yesterday evening it was announced journalist Razzall would be taking the desk, which prompted anger from many who felt Maitlis had done nothing wrong.
This morning the presenter addressed the response to her night off, thanking her supporters.
She wrote on Twitter on Thursday: ‘Been overwhelmed by all the kindness, messages – and support on here – and I’ve probably missed much of it.
‘A big thank you from us all at #newsnight.’
